Summary:
As a third-year undergraduate student, I cultivated critical thinking and persuasive writing skills by focusing on crafting essays that critically reassess and evaluate the arguments and methodologies of other scholars and policymakers, particularly in the realm of international relations and law.
Full Description:
During my third-year of studies, I focused on honing the ability to critically reassess the work of other scholars in my written work. Although oftentimes, these assignments are only required to fulfill certain criteria like topic, setting, or length, I wanted to delve deeply into the arguments presented, identify gaps or inconsistencies, and propose alternative interpretations—a skill necessary in future policy work. Such tasks demanded a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, strong research skills, and the ability to synthesize information across multiple sources.
Key Accomplishments:
1. Authored critical reassessment essays that identified significant gaps in existing research, proposing evidence-based interpretations that clarified contentious debates.
2. Conducted in-depth analyses of academic arguments across interdisciplinary subjects, incorporating insights from primary and secondary sources to strengthen critiques.
General Learning Significance:
This academic work deepened my understanding of how to approach complex issues with rigor and thoughtful analysis. It also reinforced the value of engaging with diverse perspectives, a skill essential for policy-making where competing priorities must be balanced. By practicing clear and persuasive communication, I developed a foundation that aligns with my long-term goals of crafting well-reasoned immigration policies and contributing to evidence-based societal progress.y future career regardless of what sector I end up in.
